This was great fun but hard at the same time because I had to try to imagine things with colors I am not used to and was trying to be "outside" my box completely.
I made several items using the items given and still am working on things but am posting what is done =)
My partner was Sandra Pendragon : http://sandrapendragon.blogspot.com/
She sent me this wonderful fun bit of soup:
This first one has 3 items I worked on using beads given. First is a Fold Formed bracelet that I added the peach/coral beads and light green to complete it... using my daughter's hand as a model.. she loves trying on all the jewelry. The second is a wire worked piece and I used the balled end head pins she sent and the gorgeous green beads to wrap around the center. The third is an enameled piece I made that the veined black and white stones she sent ( not sure what they were) went perfect with. My daughter was so grateful I let her model because she took the necklace. *rolls eyes*
This next one is made using the large pink beads she sent me. Sandra knew from our chat that I did not do pink since I have red hair and it clashes so I cannot ever seem to make things work with it. So pink she sent.... I took a piece of copper and used a rolling mill to corrugate it into the rippled strip. It has vintage lace and some seam binding that I hand dyed lightly. I have a thing for curly copper and used it as a connector in multiple pieces in multiple ways. Her clasp is used in the upper right picture.
This third one is another enameled piece using the beads Sandra sent me and I even did some different wraps to experiment. The blacks and almost transparent green beads she sent set the teal of the enamel off beautifully.
This last one is actually the one where I used the focal Sandra sent me. It took me a while to decide what to do with this. It was not until the last week that I figured it out. I stared and stared at it and just couldn't see anything. Then I was having one of those rough weeks, you know the one where Murphy is dogging your heels and if it can go wrong it does.
Fencing tourney's, Prom, ACT, SAT, Licensure exam, new grandbaby coming, 12 year old's first official dance, Dress shopping, no car, 60 baby shower invitations handmade with punchart from 900 miles away, all while cold turkey quitting soda, busting butt at the gym to get healthy so that I do not get another cancer scare like I did the week before I moved to Ohio 6 months ago. I was sick with whatever flu is floating around and then end up allergic to something that grows here and broke out in hives. I don't have any friends here, there are no bead, craft or whatnot stores to go to. I lost my dream job when I moved here and now I do not know who I am supposed to be or what I am supposed to do. So I felt lost among a million rain drops.. Hence the name of my piece "Lost in the Rain"
She soldered geometric circles, squiggles and a 3D triangle. I thought it needed some bling so I added the vintage rhinestone from an old piece I had to the center of the ring she soldered to the bottom. I used the tear drop green stones and wrapped them into dangles and the curly is more geometric connecting that just fit. It is my tornado.
Thank you Lori for letting me join and I am so glad to see you doing a little better. You deserve it so much!!
Thank you to my partner Sandra Pendragon for the fun challenge.

I love what you did with your soup Shawn! I guess I should have told you what all the stones were!! sorry. I adore your enamel. Lost in the rain is lovely and just beautiful. I love your concept of the tornado necklace. funny because I made the focal to be like a windy scene, like a kite in the air. That is the risk you take when you have your girl model for you! Mine also wanted everything I had her model. lol. thanks so much Shawn for a great Bead Soup! So nice to know you~
ReplyDeleteIts interesting how striking a simple piece of corrugated copper can be. I don't know what a folded form bracelet means, maybe you could explain
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but I really like the eclectic way you hung everything on the last one.... that wrapping at the top of the bottle dangle is perfect!! ~KM
ReplyDeleteVery pretty pieces. The way you've put together the third one is so unique and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the curly copper; you made some really unique pieces there!
ReplyDeleteI love the wire wraps you used on the green enamel focal necklace. Love your soldered piece the green works so well with the copper.
ReplyDeleteYou made a lot of wonderful pieces with your soup and should be very happy with them.
All your pieces are individual and gorgeous as you are!! Hope lost in the rain becomes found in the sun!!
ReplyDeleteI really love "Lost in the rain". I hope you'll find the sun asap.
ReplyDeleteYour pieces are so original, I love your metal components and the combos you made
ReplyDeleteShawn, I'm not sure where you found time and/or motivation to create, but so glad you did! Your designs are inventive and eye-catching, especially the last one, which is obviously infused with a lot of personal meaning. Hope good things for you to balance the rain :)
ReplyDeleteReally like your curly copper with the pink. Great piece. And I would wear Lost in the Rain even in the sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say.....this only would let me use my google ID which I never use so how you would ever know I commented unless I said so.......Lee (Stregajewellry.wordpress.com) is the ID I always use. Just did not want you to think I didn't come visit.
ReplyDeleteLove the difference in the pieces you came up with. Very eye catching! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful but the last necklace, my favorite! I'm so sorry you had "one of those weeks"...I think so many of us can relate lately...but you created a beautiful piece amidst your storm.
